Star Beauty Tips : Beckii CruelNovember 13, 2013
It has been a long long time since I did one Beauty Interview. Because well, I dont really know who I can interview hehe. But then I just notice, why don't I interview my friends instead?
I know Beckii from Cofesta Events in Japan as we're ambassadors along with other influencers, and we had nice trip altogether last time
So it's my honour to present you guys back with this Star Beauty Tips Segment!! And it will be Beckii first, among the other ambassadors!
So here we go!
Hello Becki! Such an honour to have you filling this segment. I am so happy to know you and thank you so much for spending your time for the interview. But at first, could you please introduce yourself to everyone here?
My name is Beckii, I’m 18 years old and I live in the Isle of Man, UK. I became popular in Japan in 2009 for my dancing videos, and nowadays I make weekly fashion related videos plus I run my travel and review blog!
We know that youre famous for your youtube channel. So what makes you started doing it?
I didn’t start YouTube in order to become popular. It was a hobby that I started in 2007. I had always loved dancing (my mother used to teach ballet, and I’ve attended ballet classes since I was 3 years old!). When I discovered Japanese culture through manga and anime, I discovered that many of the anime songs also had dances choreographed too! I learned them and I posted them, and it was a great way for me to dance more often.
When I first saw you I was surprised to see how cute you are in person and your fashion is very 'Japanese'. Why do you like Japanese Fashion Style ?
I love Japanese fashion because it’s so free. You can really do anything you like and wear the most crazy clothing and you won’t be ostracised, you’ll be welcomed. In the UK there is more emphasis on being sexy, however in Japan the emphasis is on being cute. It’s a little suffocating at home being surrounded by such themes, and I certainly found that cute Japanese fashion was the answer to my prayers growing up in my teens, as I wasn’t really ready to try any ‘sexy’ fashion then!
Do you prefer to use Asian Beauty products or Western Beauty products more? Why?
I love using Asian beauty products. The quality is much higher, because the companies actually care and communicate with their fans. There’s also really innovative products too! The technology is much more advanced. BB cream has been popular in Asia for a long time, but only in the past 6 months to 1 year has it been introduced in the West. We’re always secretly following Asian trends, but reproducing them both more expensive and lesser quality, so I may as well buy the original and have it sooner, cheaper and better!
Living in UK must be very tough to get your hands on Japanese Beauty Products. How do you usually get it from?
I usually have to order online and import them, or I make the most of my time spent in Japan and stock up heavily! It’s a shame having to buy online as I can’t test the shades or anything, so I much prefer buying in person.
That's true. Anyway, when we're in Japan for traveling, I am very curious about make up products that you bring. Would you mind to share what do you usually bring during traveling?
While travelling I always try to bring travel sized versions of everything! I try to pack my makeup the night before, and in the morning of travelling I’ll use the products in the bag and do a full face of makeup just to check I have everything I need. I use travelling to also test out samples I have collected, such as sachets of body milk, or test size perfumes, it’s a nice excuse to use them and it saves having to bring an entire bottle of anything!
Since I am a make up junkie, I am so interested to know about others' make up. Whats your favourite make up products ?
My favourite foundation has to be Lancome Teint Miracle. The coverage is very good and the weight is just right. I compliment it with Majolica Majorca’s Pressed Pore Cover Powder. I really love Majolica Majorca’s eyeshadow too, so I use the Jeweling Eye Palettes! The eyeshadows have a lovely pigmentation and texture, they’re very creamy and soft. I also like to use Red Cherry lashes- it’s so hard to find good eyelashes in the UK, and you can often pay £6 for a single pair of stiff, shiny lashes!
I found Red Cherry online and they use natural fibres and have very soft spines, and for £3/pair they’re the best available to me so far. I love using Calvin Klein lip products, and my all time favourite is the Delicious Luxury Creme lipsticks. I’ve been using the same one forever, it lasts a really long time, and I’m almost ready to replace it! I’m still looking for the perfect brow, blush and mascara, so I can’t recommend any yet.
Oh wow ! Now I am more interested to know about your Daily Make Up. Please share it to us too!

I know that you never dye your hair. Is that a special reason behind it? As we know a lot of fashion bloggers really like to change their hair colour
I actually am thinking about dying my hair a copper-ginger colour! But I’ve not done it yet. I’m very scared that it will damage my hair, and because it’s so long it would be impossible to completely grow out a colour, so I don’t feel very free to experiment. Lots of people compliment my natural hair colour, too, so it makes me worried I would never see it again if I dyed it! I guess brown is also part of my image, so there’s that to think about too.
Do you have favorite Japanese models or artists that you follow the style?
I don’t really have specific style icons, I like to take inspiration from brand collections rather than individuals. I like Popteen model Kumicky, and I like Harajuku icon Juria Nakagawa, and it’s always good to see what they’re wearing. It’s quite hard to follow Japanese fashion from afar, so I follow the street style blog Tokyo Fashion to see what everyday people are wearing in Tokyo!
What make up products do you like to collect the most?
I can’t stop buying nail polish. I have almost 200 polishes, and I have so many deco items and tools! I used to use them all the time when I was 15, but I haven’t found the time lately to do any intricate manicures. I hope I can do them again soon.
When I met you I was surprised that you didn't wear Circle Lens at all. Could you tell us why?
Many people in the UK who are interested in J-Fashion wear lenses, but I personally don’t. I’m too timid with my eyes! I don’t wear lenses for correction, so I’ve never put them in before. Maybe one day I’ll try it, but I’m a little bit wary of buying them online. In regular UK mainstream fashion absolutely nobody wears cosmetic lenses, they only wear correction lenses. I’m curious if cosmetic lenses will ever catch on at home!
How do you manage to keep your skip clear and healthy?
My skin is rarely perfect, I always have at least one problem area, and when that one heals, another appears! I use a western brand to keep on top of acne: Dr Organic Tea Tree Face Wash and Tea Tree Stick. It really kills the spots within days! I wash my face twice a day and keep my skin hydrated and moisturised, and now I’m just waiting for an age where my hormones will balance I guess!
I see that your body is very slim. Do you have any diet tips for us ?
I don’t actually diet! I’ve done ballet from 3 years old, and of course my J-Pop dancing is very energetic, so I get plenty of exercise. I also have recently begun going to Pilates classes, which is really fun so far! Both my parents are active and slim, so I have inherited their builds. I have a fast metabolism, and I also don’t eat large portions, but I don’t restrict myself at all in what I eat, and I’m really addicted to sugary snacks ( ･ิω･ิ）I rather eat a small amount many times throughout the day than a large amount only twice a day. If I eat an evening meal, I eat it at 5 or 6PM, so I can have time to digest it and excersise before I go to sleep, otherwise like the sumo you just put it on straight away!
Thank you so much for my lovely Beckii for the awesome interview!
