Spring Flowers in Japan - Japan Sakura Bloom 2018 Map Guide

February 22, 2018

Many people would visit Japan during spring season because they want to see the beautiful sakura that has become the iconic flower of Japan, and I was one of them. I have visited Japan for Sakura season around 2-3 times and still love the season so much despite the tourist crowd all over Japan (both local and international)

Spring has good weather, pretty flowers, cute limited edition items of sakura from many brands, as well as colorful scenery everywhere! However catching sakura is pretty difficult and I would recommend 1-2 weeks stay in certain period to catch the full bloom. To help you planning the dates to visit Japan, here's the map as given by JNTO!

Stay from the last week of March to first week of April to catch Sakura in Tokyo or Osaka. But if you cant come during the time, or want to avoid tourist crowd or high surcharge price during high season, I suggest you come a little bit later and enjoy Sakura in Tohoku, Kanazawa, or Hokkaido Area (upper part of Japan)

Basic geography for sakura hunting is, the souther it is, the faster it blooms, and the norther it is, it is colder hence the flowers bloom later. This doesnt apply to high areas such as mountains that's practically colder than city or beach areas (Kyoto included)

But spring in Japan is not only about Sakura. In fact, there are other mindblowing flowers in Japan that you should catch!
